Paralegal Power Breaks are short information packed sessions that provide useful career information to paralegals at all career levels. This session is part of the Get Serious! series. When beginning any journey it is just as important to know where you are as it is to know where you are going. A career is a journey. The jobs that you work throughout your career no matter how long you have been in that particular job is just one of the destinations on your career journey. Not knowing this will lead to mediocrity.
Mediocrity fosters a mindset of just getting by. Although just getting by may help you to keep your current job it is not what is necessary to be successful in your career. Mediocrity fosters career stagnation by focusing on What Is and not What Will Be. A What Is mentality gets stuck in the mundane. The following phrases are usually made by the mediocre "This is How Things Have Always Been Done" or "If it Isn't Broke Why Fix It?". This mentality does not allow one to envision a better future. A future where you have that degree you put on your resolution list last year. A future where you start your own independent paralegal business. A future where you go to law school and become an attorney.
Excellence and success go hand in hand. Being successful requires the necessity to look to the future and chart the path to get there. To get to where you want to be you need to know where you are now.
