When a journey is embarked upon and the final destination gets closer and closer the excitement starts to increase until this excitement reaches a climax when you finally arrive. Think about when you were a child and were on a trip to an amusement park or some other place that you enjoyed going to. Once you finally made it the excitement was almost impossible to contain. This feeling of excitement is not only isolated to to a childhood experience. Consider a journey that you embarked upon like a trip to the Bahamas or a trip to some place that you always wanted to visit. Once you finally made it to the destination it was like you had just made it to Disneyland.
Career success is typically something that is aspired to as if it is a destination. Viewing career success, or any type of success for that matter from this viewpoint often leads to disillusionment. When success is viewed as if it is a destination that feeling of excitement that is experienced once a destination is reached either never comes, or it quickly wanes when the realities of what it takes to sustain that level of success begin to manifest.
If career success is viewed as if it were journey and not a destination you will continue to have the drive, the fortitude, and the perseverance to do what is necessary to sustain it.
